Since I Have Been Redeemed (Hymn)

Since I Have Been Redeemed
Edwin Excell (1884)

I have a song I love to sing,
Since I have been redeemed,
Of my Redeemer, Savior King,
Since I have been redeemed.

Refrain
Since I have been redeemed,
Since I have been redeemed,
I will glory in His Name,
Since I have been redeemed,
I will glory in the Savior’s Name.

I have a Christ Who satisfies
Since I have been redeemed,
To do His will my highest prize,
Since I have been redeemed.

Refrain

I have a witness bright and clear,
Since I have been redeemed,
Dispelling every doubt and fear,
Since I have been redeemed.

Refrain

I have a home prepared for me,
Since I have been redeemed,
Where I shall dwell eternally,
Since I have been redeemed.

Refrain

I have a joy I can’t express,
Since I have been redeemed,
All through His blood and righteousness,
Since I have been redeemed.

Refrain

When you just want a hymn that helps you praise the Lord, this is a good one.  We do need to glory in the Saviour’s name.  We should do that every day of our lives.  I like the last verse: “I have a joy I can’t express, Since I have been redeemed.”  That joy should fill all of our hearts every day!

Since I Found My Saviour (Hymn)

Since I Found My Saviour
Eliza Hewitt

Life wears a different face to me,
Since I found my Savior;
Rich mercy at the cross I see,
My dying, living Savior.

Refrain
Golden sunbeams round me play;

Jesus turns my night to day;
Heaven seems not far away,
Since I found my Savior.

He sought me in His wondrous love,
So I found my Savior;
He brought salvation from above,
My dear, almighty Savior.

Refrain

The passing clouds may intervene,
Since I found my Savior;
But He is with me, though unseen,
My ever present Savior.

Refrain

A strong hand kindly holds my own,
Since I found my Savior;
It leads me onward to the throne,
Oh, there I’ll see my Savior!

Refrain

There truly is a difference when the Lord Jesus comes.  I think that any person who has found the Saviour can sing this song, which is a great one about the joys that He brings to those that know Him.  It is a great thing to think about Him, sing about Him, and praise His name for all that He has done for us and in our lives!

Trusting Jesus (Hymn)

Trusting Jesus
Edgar Stites (1876)

Simply trusting every day,
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Refrain

Trusting as the moments fly,
Trusting as the days go by;
Trusting Him whate’er befall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Brightly does His Spirit shine
Into this poor heart of mine;
While He leads I cannot fall;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Refrain

Singing if my way is clear,
Praying if the path be drear;
If in danger for Him call;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Refrain

Trusting Him while life shall last,
Trusting Him till earth be past;
Till within the jasper wall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Refrain

We should always trust Jesus.  No matter what the situation and no matter what the problem, we should trust Him.  “Singing if my way is clear, Praying if the path be drear.”  That is exactly what we should do as Christians.  Trusting Jesus, that is all.  Amen to that.

Simply Trusting (Hymn)

Simply Trusting
Fanny Crosby (1877)

Simply trusting all the way,
Taking Jesus at His Word;
Simply trusting, when I pray,
Every promise of my Lord.

Refrain

Simply trusting, simply trusting,
Trusting Jesus, that is all;
To the cross of Christ I cling;
Simply trusting, that is all.

Trusting when my sky is bright,
Trusting when my heart is glad;
Trusting in the gloom of night,
When my every thought is sad.

Refrain

Trusting when ’tis well with me,
Trusting whatsoe’er befall;
Trusting Jesus’ love for me,
Simply trusting, that is all.

Refrain

“Simply trusting all the way.”  That is a wonderful summary of the entire Christian life.  We simply trust Jesus.  I love this stanza: “Trusting when my sky is bright, Trusting when my heart is glad; Trusting in the gloom of night, When my every thought is sad.”  No matter what our situation in life, we need to simply trust the Lord.  “Simply trusting, that is all.”

Showers of Blessings (Hymn)

Showers of Blessings
Fanny Crosby

Here in Thy Name we are gathered,
Come and revive us, O Lord;
“There shall be showers of blessing,”
Thou hast declared in Thy Word.

Refrain

Oh, graciously hear us,
Graciously hear us, we pray:
Pour from Thy windows upon us
Showers of blessing today.

Oh! that the showers of blessing,
Now on our souls may descend,
While at the footstool of mercy
Pleading Thy promise we bend!

Refrain

“There shall be showers of blessing,”
Promise that never can fail;
Thou wilt regard our petition;
Surely our faith will prevail.

Refrain

Showers of blessing, we need them,
Showers of blessing from Thee;
Showers of blessing, oh, grant them,
Thine all the glory shall be.

Refrain

We do truly need “showers of blessings.”  Before coming across these lyrics, I was not familiar with this hymn.  I was actually looking for a different hymn of the same name.  But this is a good hymn that reminds us where blessings come from and how to get them.  My dad likes to say “Don’t ask God to bless what you do; find out what God blesses and do it.”  We need and want the blessing of God on our lives.   We need to do those things that He is going to bless!

The Old Ship of Zion (Hymn)

The Old Ship of Zion
M.J. Cartwright (1889)

I was drifting away on life’s pitiless sea,
And the angry waves threatened my ruin to be,
When away at my side, there I dimly descried,
A stately old vessel, and loudly I cried:
“Ship ahoy! Ship ahoy!”
And loudly I cried: “Ship ahoy!”

’Twas the “old ship of Zion,” thus sailing along,
All aboard her seemed joyous, I heard their sweet song;
And the Captain’s kind ear, ever ready to hear,
Caught my wail of distress, as I cried out in fear:
“Ship ahoy! Ship ahoy!”
As I cried out in fear: “Ship ahoy!”

The good Captain commanded a boat to be low’red,
And with tender compassion He took me on board;
And I’m happy today, all my sins washed away
In the blood of my Savior, and now I can say:
“Bless the Lord! Bless the Lord!”
From my soul I can say: “Bless the Lord!”

O soul, sinking down ’neath sin’s merciless wave,
The strong arm of our Captain is mighty to save;
Then trust Him today, no longer delay,
Board the old ship of Zion, and shout on your way:
“Jesus saves! Jesus saves!”
Shout and sing on your way: “Jesus saves!”

I like the sea and ships, so I love the imagery of this hymn.  We were drifting away on the raging sea of life when Jesus found us and saved us.  What a glorious Saviour and what a reason to sing, with the author, “Jesus saves!”

The Hem of His Garment (Hymn)

The Hem of His Garment
George Root (18??)

She only touched the hem of His garment
As to His side she stole,
Amid the crowd that gathered around Him,
And straightway she was whole.

Refrain

Oh, touch the hem of His garment!
And thou, too, shalt be free!
His saving power this very hour
Shall give new life to thee!

She came in fear and trembling before Him,
She knew her Lord had come;
She felt that from Him virtue had healed her,
The mighty deed was done.

Refrain

He turned with “Daughter, be of good comfort,
Thy faith hath made thee whole!”
And peace that passeth all understanding
With gladness filled her soul.

Refrain

This is one of my favorite stories from the Bible.  I came across this hymn the other day and I love the thought it contains.  If we could but touch the hem of His garment, we would be made whole.  We simply need to get to the Saviour.  Whatever our problem in life, He can solve it.  Jesus is everything and we need to constantly be going to Him.

Shall We Gather At The River (Hymn)

Shall We Gather at the River
Robert Lowry (1864)

Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod,
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?

Refrain

Yes, we’ll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.

On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will talk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.

Refrain

Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we every burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.

Refrain

At the smiling of the river,
Mirror of the Savior’s face,
Saints, whom death will never sever,
Lift their songs of saving grace.

Refrain

Soon we’ll reach the silver river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease;
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.

Refrain

This is a wonderful hymn about the time when we all get to Heaven and what a glorious event that will be.  It will be a time of reunions with loved ones and friends who have gone on before us.  But, the question for today is this: are we ready?  What are we doing to make sure that our loved ones are with us?  Are we ready today?

Send the Light (Hymn)

Send the Light
Charles Gabriel (1890)

There’s a call comes ringing over the restless wave,
“Send the light! Send the light!”
There are souls to rescue there are souls to save,
Send the light! Send the light!

Refrain

Send the light, the blessèd Gospel light;
Let it shine from shore to shore!
Send the light, the blessèd Gospel light;
Let it shine forevermore!

We have heard the Macedonian call today,
“Send the light! Send the light!”
And a golden offering at the cross we lay,
Send the light! Send the light!

Refrain

Let us pray that grace may everywhere abound,
“Send the light! Send the light!”
And a Christlike spirit everywhere be found,
Send the light! Send the light!

Refrain

Let us not grow weary in the work of love,
“Send the light! Send the light!”
Let us gather jewels for a crown above,
Send the light! Send the light!

Refrain

As Christians, it is our job to “send the light.”  We have the Light.  There is an urgent need to use it to illuminate the world for the Lord Jesus.  How are we doing?  Who can see our light today?

Send Out a Light (Hymn)

Send Out a Light
Mary Bernstecher (1916)

Send out a light as you go your way,
A beacon of hope when shadows are gray;
Send out a light that for Jesus will shine,
Proving to others God’s mercy divine.

Refrain
Send out a light, a radiant light,

That will pierce thro’ the gloom
Of someone’s dark night,
Send out a light, a bright beaming light,
Send out a light for Jesus.

Send out a light when your burdens press,
And show to the world that Jesus will bless;
Thro’ darkest sorrows and bitterest pain,
Send out a light—it will not shine in vain.

Refrain

Send out a light unto those who stray,
All heedless along destruction’s highway;
Point them to pathways of purer delight,
And let your life daily send out a light.

Refrain

This hymn is all about sending out the gospel light to the world around us.  There are people in darkness all around us.  Are we doing anything to make sure that they see the light?  Are we shining our light brightly, or are we allowing our light to be hidden?
