Get Up and Get Going (2)

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

Romans 13:11-12

We are told many times in the Bible to stop sinning and start doing right.  People from the book of Genesis to the book of the Revelation are told to stop living for the devil and start living for the Lord.  This is one of those passages.

“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”

We are told to “cast off the works of darkness.”  If we are going to get anything done for the Lord, we are going to have to stop sinning.  None of us are perfect, but the closer we get to the Lord, the less we are going to sin.  There are things that Christians simply shouldn’t do.  Unfortunately, there are many Christians who are content to live with several “little sins” in their lives.  There is no time for that and there is no place for that.  We need to get rid of the sin in our lives – “cast off the works of darkness.”

On the other hand, we also need to “put on the armour of light.”  We are going to be fighting a battle – every day.  Ephesians tells us more about this “armour of light.”  But we need to put it on every day and get ready for the battle that is ahead of us.  Too often, Christians are asleep when they should be awake and fighting in the battle.  What are we doing today?
