God Knows

And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.  And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?  Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

John 9:1-3

In this story, Jesus met a man who had been blind from his birth.  The disciples, immediately thinking that this disability was a punishment for sin, asked Jesus who had sinned to cause his condition.  The answer Jesus gave them was one that we should remember in our dealings with people every day.

Jesus told them “Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.”  He told them that this man’s condition was not the result of some sin.  This man was blind that “the works of God should be made manifest in him.”  God was going to use this man and his condition to show Himself strong and capable of miracles.

The disciples couldn’t see all of God’s plan.  This man couldn’t see all of God’s plan for his life.  This man’s family and friends couldn’t see all of God’s plan.  Only God could see the beginning from the end.  God had a definite and specific purpose for this man, even though it took years for anyone to see it.

As we go through life and look at other people (or even ourselves), we need to remember this.  We are not omniscient.  We cannot see the beginning from the end like God can.  We need to believe Him and trust Him.  We need to do what we are supposed to do and allow God to work in His way and in His time.
