Did You Think To Pray (Hymn)

Did You Think To Pray
Mary A. Pepper Kidder

Ere you left your room this morning,
Did you think to pray?
In the name of Christ our Savior,
Did you sue for loving favor,
As a shield today?

O how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day;
So when life seems dark and dreary,
Don’t forget to pray.

When you met with great temptation,
Did you think to pray?
By His dying love and merit,
Did you claim the Holy Spirit
As your guide and stay?

When your heart was filled with anger,
Did you think to pray?
Did you plead for grace, my brother,
That you might forgive another
Who had crossed your way?

When sore trials came upon you,
Did you think to pray?
When your soul was bowed in sorrow,
Balm of Gilead did you borrow
At the gates of day?

This is a convicting hymn to me.  How often have I gone through some of these exact situations and forgotten to pray?  How many times have I not “thought to pray?”  This is a simple hymn with a simple message, which makes it all the more powerful!

  1. This really was powerful, Ben, for me too. Thinking of something that has begun to overwhelm me . . .and I’m beginning to let others know, but how much have I prayed? Thank you and God bless you.

    • Any time I read anything about praying more, I feel convicted because I know I don’t pray like I should. Prayer should be our first response, but often I find it to be my last resort. I guess we will have to work on it!
