Praise the Lord for His Goodness

Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!

Psalm 107:8, 15, 21,and 31

This Psalm has been a great encouragement to me.  Of course we should praise the Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful works to us.  We have so much to thank the Lord for and this Psalm gives us several specific reasons:

1. He has redeemed us from the hand of our enemy (vs 2)
2. He has delivered us from distress and wandering (vs 3-6)
3. He leads us in the right way (vs 7)
4. He satisfies and fills our souls (vs 9)
5. He delivers us even when we rebel against Him (vs 11, 13)
6. He brings us out of darkness and the shadow of death (vs 10, 14)
7. He looses us from our affliction and “bands of iron” (vs 10, 14)
8. He saves us from our transgression and iniquities (vs 17-19)
9. He sends His Word to heal us (vs 20)
10. He delivers us from destruction (vs 20)
11. He calms and quiets the storms of life (vs 29)
12. He brings us into a safe haven (vs 30)

I’m sure that there are many more reasons than these to praise the Lord for His goodness, but this is a good list to meditate on.  The last verse of the chapters tells us “Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.”.  We should keep these things always in mind, and always try to remember just how good the Lord has been to us.  Let us never forget His lovingkindness!

  1. I love the Psalms for all the promises of God that they contain. They are the first place I turn to on a difficult day. I like your numbered list delineating the promises of God in Psalm 107. Very nice summary and reminder of who God is.
